Endocrinology at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital

Board-certified pediatric endocrinologists at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital specialize in diagnosing endocrine disorders, such as diabetes and thyroid disease, in children. These conditions may affect metabolism, mood, sleep, blood pressure, and growth and development. If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, start by talking with your child’s pediatrician. Your pediatrician can refer you to our team and other pediatric specialists at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.

Diagnosing and treating endocrine disorders

Your child’s first appointment starts with a conversation with an experienced pediatric endocrinologist. We listen to understand your child and your concerns about your child’s health. Your child’s doctor may recommend tests to help diagnose your child’s condition. Most tests, such as blood and urine tests, are done in our office. We also provide stimulation testing, including growth hormone stimulation testing, if needed.

Your child’s doctor takes the time to explain your child’s diagnosis and answer your questions. Then, we work with you to create a personalized care plan. Treatments may include oral medications or injections. And as your child’s needs change, so does our care. We provide ongoing care, education and management of endocrine disorders for children and teens until age 18. When your child reaches adulthood, we help them transition into adult care at Ascension St. Vincent.

We diagnose and treat endocrine disorders including:

  • Adrenal disorders, including congenital adrenal hyperplasia
  • Bone and calcium disorders
  • Diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2)
  • Early or late puberty
  • Growth disorders
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Lipid disorders (high cholesterol and triglycerides)
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in adolescence
  • Pituitary disorders
  • Prediabetes
  • Thyroid disorders (hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism)
  • Vitamin D deficiency

Nutritional counseling and diabetes education

Diabetes educators are part of your child’s care team and help your family navigate your child’s care. Our diabetes educators are experienced working with children and explain diabetes in a way children can understand. We help you and your child understand their symptoms, how to monitor their blood glucose (sugar) levels, how to administer insulin, how to manage medications, and more. And pediatric dietitians work with your child and family on how to make healthy nutrition choices for living with diabetes.
