  • Healing arts

Pediatric art therapists and music therapists at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital provide healing arts therapy for children getting care in the hospital. A new diagnosis combined with time away from family and friends can affect a child or teen’s mental health. For many children, it can also be hard to find the words to describe how they are feeling. Art therapy and music therapy can help kids better cope with their hospital stay in a fun and creative way.

  • Pet therapy

Our facility dog program uses therapy dogs to offer a positive distraction from the hospital environment. Visits with a therapy dog can provide motivation, education, and therapeutic benefits to enhance your child’s quality of life while getting care in the hospital. Some patients walk dogs up and down the hallways as they rehabilitate after a surgery. Others will practice reading skills and gain confidence by reading to a dog that won’t notice if they stumble over a word.

  • Playground, books, toys and games

The playground on the third floor of Peyton Manning Children's Hospital is open for all patients and families during their time in the hospital. Siblings may use the playground when accompanied by an adult.

We also offer books, toys and games, which can be brought to the bedside if your child is unable to leave their room. DVDs and video games are available for checkout. Infant and toddler equipment such as mobiles, highchairs and wagons are available by asking any care team member.

If playing outside is not an option due to weather or illness, we have indoor Playrooms on both our 3rd and 4th floors as well as a Teen Room on the 3rd floor.

  • School program

Keeping a normal routine can play an important role in your child’s healing process. At Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, we provide educational support for school-aged children during their hospital stay through our hospital school program. Your child can bring their school work to be done in a class session with a certified teacher, either in their hospital room or in the hospital classroom.

School services are offered by a certified teacher in a small group or on an individual basis, Monday through Friday, during the school year. We can also assist parents and families by offering liaison services while your child is in the hospital. We support your child while they are in the hospital and help create a plan for when they return to school. If your child has educational needs during their hospital stay, ask your child’s care team about getting support from a teacher at our hospital.
