Asthma care at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital

Board-certified pediatric pulmonologists at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis work to diagnose, treat and manage asthma collaboratively with community allergists and other subspecialists. We take a multidisciplinary approach to asthma care.

Testing and treatment for all types of asthma

The care team at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital diagnose and treat all types of asthma. We provide pulmonary function testing and cardiopulmonary exercise testing for:

  • Allergic asthma triggered by allergens, such as dust mites, pollens, molds and pet dander.
  • Non-allergic asthma triggered by viral infections and airway irritants, such as smoke and pollution, or reactions to certain medications.
  • Exercise-induced asthma during physical activities.
  • Associated conditions that often affect children with asthma, such as allergic rhinitis, sleep apnea, gastroesophageal reflux disease, dysphagia and developmental problems.

Multidisciplinary team approach to asthma care

Our comprehensive pediatric asthma program provides evaluation and management of asthma in children of all ages. Our multidisciplinary approach to care means your child’s care team includes pediatric pulmonologists and respiratory therapists. We take the time to explain your child’s lung function and identify triggers. An asthma management care plan may include quick-relief medications, preventive medications for long-term control, and management of coexisting conditions.

We’ll work with your family to help identify possible asthma triggers – viral infections and colds, indoor and outdoor allergens, exercise, cold air, smoke, and others. Your doctor and care team are here to help your child manage their asthma care into adulthood. Your child’s care team provides information and support your family needs to help manage your child’s day-to-day care. Your child’s care plan also helps their caregivers, teachers and coaches know what to do in a medical emergency.
