Child passenger safety program at Dell Children’s
Your child’s safety is your priority and ours. That’s why we created Kids in Cars at Dell Children’s Medical Center, part of Ascension Seton – a program that focuses on child passenger safety. Our goal is to help parents and caregivers protect their children by providing car seat installation services, car seat inspections and general passenger safety education. Kids in Cars supports families across Central Texas in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties.
Car seat inspections
Help ensure your child's safety on the road by having your child’s car seat inspected by a certified child passenger safety technician. Our experienced technicians provide personalized inspections. During the inspection, we make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed and securely fits your child. Car seat inspection appointments are approximately 30 minutes per car seat inspected. You can leave your appointment confident – knowing your child’s car seat meets best practice recommendations set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
During the car seat inspection, a certified child passenger safety technician will:
- Inspect your car seat to help ensure that it is not recalled, expired, or unsafe to use.
- Determine if your car seat is the correct fit for your child’s height and weight.
- Help you learn how to install your car seat and ensure it is compatible with your vehicle.
- Help you learn how to properly harness your child in the car seat.
- Answer any questions or concerns you have about your child’s safety while riding in your vehicle.
Become a certified child passenger safety technician
The Dell Children’s Kids in Cars program provides certified child passenger safety technician training. This training uses the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration curriculum and includes approximately 24 hours of guided instruction. To become a certified child passenger safety technician, you must be 18 years of age or older, attend the entire scheduled course, pass all written and hands-on skills activities, and attend a culminating community car seat check event. For more information, please visit Safe Kids Worldwide.
Kids in Cars supports local technicians in their certification renewal process. Our team provides opportunities for car seat sign offs, continuing education, and renewal testing. Email our team for more information at kidsincars@ascension.org.
Community awareness events
The Kids in Cars program supports local community events with educational information and demonstrations. Our goal is to increase awareness of proper car seat installation, harnessing, and general overall safety. Community events are a great way to connect your community with Dell Children’s Kids in Cars program.
A minimum 6 week advance notice is required. Due to the limited number of resources available, we do not provide child passenger safety inspection events in collaboration with community events.
