Pediatric trauma care at Dell Children’s

ASC badgeIf your child is experiencing a life-threatening or traumatic injury, our Dell Children's trauma center is on call with highly trained pediatric doctors and care teams. We work quickly to stabilize, diagnose and treat your child's needs. Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin is the only children’s hospital in Central Texas with a Level I Trauma Center designation by the American College of Surgeons. This designation means we have the right expertise and are immediately prepared to provide the highest quality of emergency trauma care. And Dell Children’s Medical Center North Campus is in pursuit of a Level III Trauma Center designation.

Pediatric injuries we treat

Our Dell Children’s care team has the expertise to treat even the most serious pediatric injuries, including:

  • Broken bones
  • Blunt force trauma
  • Bites
  • Burns
  • Falls
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Other severe injuries

To treat complex traumatic injuries, we bring together a multidisciplinary care team. Your child may be cared for by pediatric surgeons, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons, intensive care specialists, hospitalists, cardiologists, ophthalmologists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, certified child life specialists, social workers, injury prevention specialists and more. Together, we collaborate to provide comprehensive emergency medical care and follow-up care.

If your child needs surgery, we have pediatric trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons and plastic surgeons ready to provide emergency surgical care 24/7. And, Dell Children’s Medical Center in Central Austin is the only Level I Children's Surgical Program in Central Texas, which means we provide the highest level of pediatric surgical care in the region.

Your child’s care doesn’t end when your family leaves the hospital. Before your child goes home, we connect you with the right specialists and follow-up care at Dell Children's, such as imaging, pharmacy, pediatric rehabilitation, pediatric orthopedic care, pediatric neurology, pediatric surgery, pediatric heart care and more. We make sure your child and family are connected to all the services you will need to help your child recover and get back to their daily life.

Caring for the whole child

Certified child life specialists are part of our care team. These specialists are experienced in helping children manage fears, stress and other challenges while they are receiving care in the hospital and our clinics. Our specialists meet with your child and family, and work with you to create a care plan that supports your child’s emotional and developmental health.

Dell Children’s Medical Center provides 24/7 trauma care for children across Central Texas. If you have a patient who needs a higher level of trauma care, our transport team can assist in moving your patient to a higher level of care.
