Dell Children’s Comprehensive Fetal Care Center is the first and only fetal care center in Central Texas caring for babies with fetal conditions.

At the Comprehensive Fetal Care Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center at Ascension Seton, you are connected to nationally recognized doctors who diagnose, treat and manage care for babies with even the most rare and complex congenital and fetal conditions. From your first appointment, your experienced and compassionate care team provides the highest level of care you and your baby need. The Comprehensive Fetal Care Center at Dell Children’s is the first and only fetal care center in Central Texas. We care for conditions including:

  • Congenital anomalies
  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia
  • Congenital heart conditions
  • Neural tube defects (spina bifida)
  • Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome
  • Urinary tract conditions

The Comprehensive Fetal Care Center at Dell Children’s is led by UT Health Austin fetal medicine specialist Michael Bebbington, MD, MHSc, and UT Health Austin fetal medicine specialist Kenneth Moise, Jr., MD, who have developed fetal centers across the country. This team has the expertise to provide comprehensive, family-centered care to ensure patients and their families receive the highest level of specialized care before, during and after delivery.

We connect the dots across specialized pediatric care and bring together a highly skilled and multidisciplinary team to deliver advanced care for the most complex prenatal and fetal conditions. Your multispecialty team includes nurse navigators, genetic counselors, maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists, OB-GYNs, neonatologists, sonographers, psychologists, palliative care and more.

And, your family will be connected to the most pediatric specialists and specialty programs in the region at Dell Children’s. If your baby needs more care, we connect you with the right pediatric specialists in blood and cancer, cardiology, neurology, gastrointestinal (GI), craniofacial, surgical care and more.

Comprehensive fetal care for you and your baby means having advanced imaging and diagnostics, genetics, advanced surgical care, specialized maternity and delivery care, mental health care and the highest level of neonatal care and support – all in one location.

  • Advanced imaging and diagnostic testing

    Dell Children’s Comprehensive Fetal Care Center provides some of the most advanced technology and tests to diagnose and monitor fetal conditions. These include:

    • Amniocentesis
    • Blood tests
    • Fetal echocardiography
    • Fetal neurosonology
    • Fetal MRI
    • Ultrasound
  • Genetic testing and counseling

    Certified prenatal genetic counselors work closely with MFMs to evaluate the likelihood of genetic conditions in current or future pregnancies. Your genetic counselor starts by listening to understand you and your concerns. Together, we can talk about your family history, risks and any conditions you may be concerned about. Your genetic counselor takes the time to explain your options for genetic testing and can recommend testing that is right for you and your family.

  • Fetal and neonatal surgery

    At the Comprehensive Fetal Care Center, our neonatal surgeons deliver some of the most advanced care for fetal conditions, including:

    • Intrauterine infusions for blood disorders
    • Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome laser surgery
    • Shunt placement
    • Fluid drainage

    Dell Children’s has the only Level I Children’s Surgical Program in Central Texas. So, babies with complex congenital conditions can be treated surgically by highly experienced pediatric specialists and surgeons.

  • Maternal Care Center

    If you and your baby are being cared for by specialists at Dell Children’s Comprehensive Fetal Care Center, you can get your maternity care in the same suite at the Maternal Care Center. Your fetal and maternity care team work together as one multispecialty team. Scheduling your appointments and getting the care you need is more convenient with both specialty care centers located in the same place.

  • Mental health care

    When you’re having a baby, you experience a lot of emotions – excitement, anticipation, worry, anxiety. At Dell Children’s Comprehensive Fetal Care Center, psychologists are part of our care team. We provide emotional support for moms during pregnancy and postpartum.

    A perinatal and reproductive psychiatrist provides counseling on the risks and benefits of medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding. They also prescribe and manage these medications.

    If needed, social workers are also part of your care team. They can help moms process the grief, trauma, and worry that can come with complex pregnancies. And we connect you and your family to resources in the community if needed.

  • Specialized Delivery Unit

    Mothers who are low-to-moderate risk and pregnant with a baby who has a congenital condition may deliver at the Specialized Delivery Unit. This state-of-the-art labor and delivery unit inside Dell Children’s Medical Center provides direct access to pediatric specialists for babies who need more care after delivery. The Specialized Delivery Unit is designed for moms and babies who are patients of the Comprehensive Fetal Care Center.

    Your care team includes specially trained labor and delivery nurses, OB-GYNs, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, fetal interventionalists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, nurse coordinators, ultrasonographers and pediatric specialists. We work as a team to provide advanced care during and after delivery. And if your baby needs neonatal intensive care (NICU care), have peace of mind knowing they will be close by at the NICU at Dell Children’s Medical Center.

  • Highest level neonatal care

    Dell Children’s is home to a Level IV NICU – the highest level of care for premature and critically ill newborn babies. The NICU provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care for the most complex and critically ill infants of all gestational ages. Neonatologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, and respiratory therapists work together to care for our tiniest babies.

  • Pediatric cardiac care unit

    Babies born with congenital heart disease are cared for in the Pediatric Cardiac Care Unit located within Dell Children’s Medical Center directly after they are born. This unit is dedicated to delivering highly specialized cardiac care to infants, children and adolescents diagnosed with congenital or acquired heart conditions. Helping you and your family navigate care

Your first visit usually includes an ultrasound and a consultation with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist. After your appointment, your nurse navigator will be here to provide support to your family. They help you coordinate appointments, provide resources and answer your questions.
