Visitor guidelines at Ascension Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital
Our visitation policy allows us to provide a safe environment, high-quality care, and positive experiences when and where our patients need us.
Visitation hours are generally 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. However, visitation may be restricted between 8 PM–6 AM, and visitors may need to enter and exit through a monitored checkpoint.
Minor children (less than 14 years old), and visitors with special needs, must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
Number of visitors: The number of visitors allowed per patient varies by department and patient type:
- Emergency Department: Two visitors per patient
- Med Surg: The number of visitors must not impede patient care
- ICU: Two visitors per patient
- Surgery: The number of visitors must not impede patient care
Visitors of patients in isolation must follow the instructions provided in infection control policies and as instructed by the isolation signage. Visitors under the age of 14 may be restricted from visiting patients in isolation. For the safety of the patient and care team, visitors who fail to comply with isolation protocols will be asked to leave.
Visitors showing signs or symptoms of infection or illness should not visit. Symptoms of illness could include cough, fever, runny nose, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, or sore throat.
Certain areas of the hospital, including the NICU, PICU, ER, labor and delivery, and surgery may have additional guidelines for visitors.
Flowers and plants: Fresh flowers and plants are not permitted in the ICU.
