When our hospital opened its doors in 1927, the leaders committed to care for the health and wellness of the people of Rutherford County. To this day, that dedication has not faltered as we have continued to expand our services and offerings to support our growing community. Over the past 15 years, Ascension Saint Thomas has invested over $600 million into building a robust system of care for Rutherford County. The commitment was emphasized in 2021 with a $110 million investment to expand and enhance the hospital campus' facilities and services. Since 2021, we have achieved remarkable milestones, with several expansion projects already completed including 36 inpatient beds, a 6-level parking garage, and Tennessee’s first neighborhood hospital, Westlawn, serving over 9,000 patients in its first year. A new ambulance drop-off area and 18 new critical care unit beds are still to come, increasing emergency response capabilities and adding specialized care to patients in critical condition.
And we’re not stopping there! Future plans involve expanding our neonatal care with six additional NICU bassinets, optimizing post-anesthesia care through the incorporation of 17 new bays and reserving third-floor space for future women’s services. At Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, we will continue building a healthcare system that reflects our deep commitment to the care we have been honored to provide for more than 95 years.
