Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center
The Ascension St. John Heyman Stroke Center is the first and only Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) in eastern Oklahoma. This advanced certification recognizes hospitals that have state-of-the-art infrastructure, staff and training to treat patients with the most complex strokes. The Stroke Center is part of an elite group of providers—the top 10 percent of stroke facilities in the country—focused on complex stroke care and recognized as industry leaders, responsible for setting the national agenda in highly specialized stroke care.
The stroke care team is led by experienced, fellowship-trained, board-certified vascular neurologists, neurosurgeons and interventional radiologists that specialize in stroke care and prevention. Our neurocritical care team, led by a fellowship-trained neurointensivist physician, provides specialized care to our patients in the neurotrauma surgical ICU.
Our doctors and care team take the time to listen to understand your symptoms. Our team approach helps you get the care that is right for you. We provide a wide range of care for all types of stroke from drug treatment to mechanical devices and minimally invasive surgical procedures, including neuro-rehabilitation for stroke recovery.
Our stroke care team includes nurses with special education and training, including an additional National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification. These trained nurses work throughout our emergency department, 22-bed neurotrauma surgical ICU and 28-bed stroke telemetry unit.
Our team at the Ascension St. John Heyman Stroke Center is dedicated to serving our patients who have been diagnosed with stroke or who need further evaluation for stroke-like symptoms. The physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff who care for our patients are focused on the care and education of the stroke patient.
