Alexian Brother Stroke Care Quality Outcomes
Alexian Brothers Medical Center is a Comprehensive Stroke Center that performs emergent stroke treatments and procedures such as thrombolytic therapy and endovascular thrombectomy. With over 400 patients admitted annually, we have the expertise to treat and care for the most complex stroke patients.
Thrombolytic Therapy
Thrombolytic therapy can be given to eligible patients when their stroke symptoms are discovered within 4.5 hours of their arrival to the Emergency Room. "Time is brain," so the faster the medication is given, the better the patient outcome.
| 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thrombolytic therapy given | 58 | 61 | 52 |
| Arrival within 60 mins. | 100% | 92% | 100% |
| Arrival within 45 mins. | 88% | 77% | 93% |

Endovascular Therapy
Endovascular therapy is now the standard of care for treatment of acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion. The goal of endovascular thrombectomy is to mechanically restore blood flow through a blocked vessel of a patient experiencing stroke symptoms.
| 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Endovascular thrombectomy procedures | 111 | 82 | 76 |
| Successful recanalization | 92% | 94% | 94% |
| Symptomatic bleed | 5% | 9% | 7% |
Coil Embolization
Coil embolization is an endovascular treatment that helps prevent or treat bleeding of cerebral aneurysms. Complications for this treatment are consistently low.
| 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Endovascular treatments of cerebral aneurysms | 56 | 57 | 50 |
| Neurological complications in patients with unruptured or ruptured (Hunt and Hess Grades 1–3) aneurysms with residual neurological symptoms at follow-up | 2 (4%) | 3 (5%) | 3 (6%) |
| Access site complications (femoral or radial artery) | 2 (4%) | 1 (2%) | 0 (0%) |
| 30-day mortality, all unruptured cerebral aneurysms undergoing endovascular treatment | 1 (2%) | 0 (0%) | 0 (0%) |
Cerebral Angiograms
Cerebral angiograms produce X-rays of the blood vessels in the brain to help doctors diagnose sources of problems, including bleeding or blockages. Complications related to these procedures are at or close to 0%.
| 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diagnostic cerebral angiogram procedures | 233 | 278 | 230 |
