Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola Pre-op Instructions

The following information is for people who have been scheduled for a surgical procedure at Ascension Sacred Heart.

Prior to surgery, you will need to have a pre-op appointment. You will be given either a telephone appointment or an in-person appointment at our offices, depending on the type of procedure and/or your medical health history.

At your pre-op appointment, a nurse will obtain your medical history, review your procedure and answer any questions you have, and give you pre-surgical instructions.

Your surgery arrival time and location will be given to you by the admissions nurse at your pre-op appointment.

If you require lab work or additional testing, the nurse will order these based on your physician’s orders and direct you to the appropriate location to obtain them.

Children scheduled for surgery who are 17 years of age or younger must have a pre-op appointment with their parents or legal guardian. Proof of legal guardianship is required for surgery. Legal paperwork must be provided prior to surgery.

If you are scheduled to come to the pre-admissions office for your pre-op appointment, please bring any paperwork your physician may have given you, including a history and physical, orders, instructions and any other related documentation or notes.

Pre-op visits are scheduled by appointment only. Your surgeon may give you an appointment day and time or if not you should call our office to schedule your Pre-op appointment:

  • Outpatient Surgical Center, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
  • Inpatient Main O.R., 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Please be sure your surgeon has the patient’s correct LEGAL first and last name. All procedures are scheduled and medical records maintained under the patient’s LEGAL name.

Have a current list of your medications, with dosage, available (prescription and over the counter) at the time of your pre-op appointment.

The Billing Process

You will be billed separately for the services of the surgeon, pathologist, cardiologist, radiologist, and anesthesiologist if applicable.

You will receive a phone call from the hospital admissions office to obtain insurance information prior to the day of surgery.

We must have verification of your insurance coverage for your procedure prior to your surgery date. It will be your responsibility to inform your insurance carrier that you have a surgical procedure scheduled.

Your surgeon’s office will be responsible for obtaining any needed preauthorization number from your insurance company if one is required.

The hospital billing department will file your claim for you. If you have questions regarding your bill, please call (850) 416-1570

If you are paying your bill without insurance, arrangements must be made with the business office prior to surgery. Unless otherwise arranged, payment in full will be expected on the day of surgery. You may pay by personal check, cash, Master Card, or Visa.
