Our history

The Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother broke ground in 1920 for a hospital in Tulsa. After years of fundraising struggles, St. John’s Hospital officially opened on February 22, 1926. The first patient, a pregnant woman, arrived several days earlier on Valentine’s Day, February 14. The Sisters opened St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1926. In 1948, a 125-bed wing was added to the south side of the hospital.
