Via Christi Comprehensive Stroke Center at Via Christi St. Francis received three 2026 American Heart Association achievement awards for demonstrating a commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, helping save lives, support recovery and reduce hospital readmissions:
- Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus award for meeting specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with thrombolytic therapy.
- Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus and Target: Stroke Honor Roll Advanced Therapy awards for by meeting specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment to remove the clot causing the stroke.
- Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™ award for ensuring patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.

The neuroscience care team at Ascension Via Christi shares a single goal: Provide high quality, coordinated stroke care from the moment the patient enters the emergency room through recovery and rehabilitation. Our multidisciplinary team has specialized training to provide the highest quality stroke care and includes:
- Emergency medicine
- Hospital medicine and critical care
- Neurology
- Neurosurgery
- Pharmacy
- Radiology
- Rehabilitation services
Each member is specially trained and has a specific responsibility to respond quickly and completely to the needs of a stroke patient.
At Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, the 20-bed neurocritical care unit is overseen by neurocritical care fellowship trained physicians. The team provides in-house evaluation and treatment for acute stroke, advanced neuro imaging, and interventional acute stroke care.
As part of our commitment to improve stroke care , we also participate in stroke clinical trials.
