Then, we work with you to create a rehabilitation care plan that’s right for you. Physical therapy helps promote healing, relieve aches and pains, and restore your strength, mobility and balance using personalized non-surgical therapies.

  • Specialized pediatric therapy gym and sensory area
  • Sports injury orthopedic rehabilitation

Adult Occupational Therapy

After an injury or illness, you may not be able to do all the things you could before, such as daily tasks. From basic needs such as eating, bathing, and dressing to more advanced skills like work or leisure activities, Ascension Via Christi outpatient occupational therapy is focused on maximizing your independence. Our occupational therapists can design an individual care plan based on your needs. Your specialist uses goal-directed activities to help you improve your physical and cognitive skills. We can also teach you to use assistive devices in order to be more self-sufficient in your daily tasks.

Adult Speech Therapy

Speech-language pathology specialists (speech therapists) specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of communication disorders, cognitive-communication disorders, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders.

Our adult speech therapists work with adults and children who are experiencing changes in their speech clarity, language, memory, voice and swallowing. This could include diagnoses such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, multiple sclerosis, or mild neurocognitive disorder. Our therapists are certified in therapy techniques such as Lee Silverman Voice Training and Vital Stim. They are also trained in swallow studies using X-ray.

You’ll work with a speech therapist to find exercises and treatments that address your specific needs. Some adults and children need help talking and communicating. Others need speech therapy to process and understand language better. For adults, speech therapy is usually focused on improving or rebuilding particular skill sets like strengthening coordination between your brain and mouth.

Studies show speech therapy is an effective method for helping people improve their communication and swallowing skills. Benefits include improved self-esteem, increased independence, improved ability to comprehend and express ideas, thoughts and feelings, enhanced vocal quality, better swallowing function, and improved quality of life.

Pediatric Physical Therapy

Pediatric physical therapy is specialized treatment coordinated by our physical therapy team. Our therapists build a program formatted to help each patient achieve their age-appropriate gross motor milestones. Our team of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants work together to help you build strength and improve your range of motion.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Pediatric occupational therapists help children gain independence while also strengthening the development of fine motor skills, sensory motor skills, visual motor skills, and self-care tasks. Occupational therapists take something that can often feel automatic, like writing our names or putting on a shirt, and break it down into the smaller steps and skills that are required to complete the actions. Our occupational therapists work with children, ensuring they are provided with the best possible start during some of the most crucial developmental phases of their lives. Children don’t like to just sit in therapy, so our occupational therapists strive to make therapy sessions feel like play. We provide support to infants, toddlers, children, adolescents and families.

Pediatric Speech Therapy

Pediatric speech therapy includes treatments that focus on articulation and speech sound disorders, receptive and expressive language disorders and delays, social interaction and pragmatic language, swallowing and feeding disorders, fluency disorders, emerging literacy skills, and establishing functional communication through augmentative or alternative communication. Our pediatric therapists have specialization in swallowing ranging from breast and bottle feeding to oral motor skills needed for a variety of developmentally appropriate foods. They also have experience with various types of language disorders including literacy skills, social communication, and alternative forms of communication (sign language, picture communication and speech generating devices).
