Your doctor may also prescribe therapy as part of your care plan. Our therapists deliver care that promotes healing, relieves aches and pains, and helps you restore your strength, mobility and well-being. Your doctor listens to understand you and your needs and works with you to create a care plan that’s right for you.
Brain Injury Day Treatment Program
The comprehensive Brain Injury Day Treatment (BIDT) Program is an intensive outpatient program designed to develop skills for successful independent living after a brain injury.
After your evaluation, your multidisciplinary care team creates a personalized care plan.
If you or a loved one is recovering from brain injury or stroke, they may benefit from our full-day program. Patients typically participate in the program 1-4 days per week, based upon their needs.
Treatment combines individual therapy sessions with group sessions. Therapies are personalized to your individual mental, physical and emotional needs. Our goal is to help you regain independent living skills and return to your everyday activities.
Day treatment includes:
- Neuropsychology assessments, and ongoing intervention and support
- Individual and group therapy
- Occupational, physical, speech and recreational therapy
- Real-life learning opportunities
- Case management
- Transition to work, school and community
- Driving evaluations
- Vocational counseling
Your care team may include:
- Physical, recreational, occupational and speech therapists
- Rehabilitation nurse
- Vocational rehabilitation therapist
- Neuropsychologist and psychology services
- Support group
Your team meets regularly with you and your family to monitor your progress and set new goals.
Neurological rehabilitation and concussion management
Conditions that may benefit from neurological rehabilitation include but are not limited to:
- Brain abscess, encephalitis and meningitis
- Degenerative disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
- Loss of oxygen to the brain (anoxia)
- Neuromuscular disorders, such as Bell’s palsy, brain or spinal cord tumors or Guillain-Barré syndrome
- Spinal cord injury
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injury
Your care plan may include:
- Activities to relearn basic, daily living skills, such as eating, dressing and bathing
- Activities to retrain speaking, reading, writing and swallowing
- Exercise programs to improve movement, strength, balance, walking and flexibility
- Activities to improve cognitive impairments
- Activities to remediate visual perception problems
Therapeutic interventions may include:
- Balance restoration
- Body-weight supported gait training
- Electrical stimulation devices
- Fall prevention
- Lee Silverman BIG® + LOUD
- Neuro-development treatment
- Orthotic and splint fabrication and recommendations
- Post-concussion rehabilitation
- Treatment for dysphagia, aphasia and cognitive communication disorders
