Neonatal specialists at the Lee and Susan Moss Family NICU at Saint Thomas Hospital Rutherford, provide advanced care for premature, post-term, and sick newborns. Our experienced team uses advanced technology to give our tiniest patients the strongest possible start.
Our neonatal specialists are trained to diagnose, treat, and manage complex conditions, and take the time to explain your baby’s diagnosis and care plan and answer all your questions.
Family-centered care close to home
The 22-bed Level II NICU is located on the same floor as Saint Thomas Rutherford Birthing Center and offers:
- AngelEye Cameras that allow parents, grandparents, and other family members to securely view a live picture of their baby when they can't be at their side.
- Breastmilk Depot
- Feeding Support: Tube feedings, special formulas, donor breast milk, and central line access for medications.
- Medical Treatments: IV antibiotics for infections, phototherapy for jaundice.
- Monitoring: Advanced equipment to track vital signs.
- NICU pharmacist to prescribe and safely administer the medication your baby needs
- Respiratory Support: Mechanical ventilation
- Stabilization: Ability to stabilize infants before transfer to a higher level if necessary
- Temperature Control: Incubators or warmers to keep babies warm.

Families visiting the NICU will find a welcoming and comfortable space to bond with your newborn and work closely with the care team throughout your NICU stay. Celebrating meaningful moments with families, including developmental milestones, holidays, and even reunions, is an important part of our care. We're here to support your entire family with education and services to help you prepare for the journey home.
