Leaders in the latest surgical technology
Ascension Seton is leading the way in having the most robotic-assisted surgical systems available onsite in Austin to help you have an easier and quicker recovery. Adding robotic systems like daVinci Surgical Systems(TM) as surgical options for your treatment has helped Ascension Seton train the largest number of surgeons in Central Texas who can use the daVinci 5 system creating more access to robotic-assisted surgery.
Benefits of robotic-assistedsurgery may include:
- Lower risk of infection due to smaller incisions
- Greater accuracy for complex procedures
- Reduced blood loss due to increased precision and control
- Smaller incisions leading to less pain, scarring and faster recovery
- Shorter hospital stays and a faster recovery

Frequently asked questions about surgery
How do I know if it’s the right time to have surgery?
Talk to your surgeon about whether surgery is right for you. Here are three questions to consider asking your doctor:
- How might surgery help ease my pain or get rid of it?
- How might this procedure help improve how my body works and change my daily life?
- How might this surgical treatment keep my condition from getting worse?
What is a general surgeon?
General surgeons are highly trained in the repair and reconstruction of bones, muscles and organs. Whenever possible, they use minimally invasive techniques to remove tumors and diseased tissue, and to help shorten your recovery time.
Where will the surgery be performed?
Surgery is performed in our hospitals and free-standing surgery centers. Many procedures are done as outpatient surgery, which means the procedure is a same-day surgery. Some procedures may require a hospital stay.
Will my doctor communicate with my family while I am in surgery?
Your care team keeps your healthcare representative (the person you have chosen to receive your healthcare information) up to date. When your procedure is complete, your surgeon provides a verbal update on your condition.
How will my family or caregiver know what to do after surgery?
Before surgery, your care team will talk with you and your healthcare representative about the care you will need after surgery. This is also the time to talk with your doctor about follow up care. Before you leave the hospital, instructions for home care will be explained to you and your healthcare representative. This can include pain management, wound care and dietary needs to make your recovery as comfortable and safe as possible.
