Heart care interventions in Middle Tennessee
If you have advanced heart disease, you may be too high-risk for surgery or other traditional treatments. The heart care team at Ascension Saint Thomas Heart specializes in coronary interventions that open arteries, increasing blood flow to help relieve symptoms of chest pain, shortness of breath and fatigue. Our advanced coronary therapeutics program provides care for:
- Chronic total occlusions
- Circulatory support assisted PCI
- Complex and multivessel coronary artery disease
- Coronary bifurcation lesions
- In-stent restenosis
- Left main coronary stenosis
Our doctors and care team listen to understand you and your health concerns. Then, we work together to create a care plan that’s right for you.
Treatment for in-stent restenosis
When you have a blocked artery, your doctor may insert a stent to help open the vessel. But over time, scar tissue or cholesterol can build up leading to a condition called, in-stent restenosis. We provide minimally invasive techniques including laser atherectomy and intracoronary brachytherapy to help treat this condition.
Intracoronary brachytherapy uses a small amount of radiation to prevent scar tissue from returning after it is treated. This helps to reduce chest pain and lower the risk of your stent narrowing again by approximately half. Ascension Saint Thomas Heart is the only hospital in Tennessee to offer this treatment. We are here to support you and help ensure your stents stay open for as long as possible.
Chronic total occlusion program
A chronic total occlusion, or CTO, is a fully blocked coronary artery that has been blocked for at least three months. Our heart specialists use advanced diagnostic testing to help us understand your condition. You may have an echocardiogram, laboratory tests, stress and viability testing, or a coronary angiography. Once you are diagnosed, our care team will find the treatment option that is right for you. Revascularizing CTOs may help improve your symptoms and quality of life.
