Frequently asked questions
-
Can anyone sign up for their patient portals?
In most states, you must be 18 years of age or older to sign up for a patient portal. Some states allow patient portal access at age 13. Please talk with your child's provider to discuss the options for patient portal access for your child in your state. -
Can I enroll my child for their patient portal?
Laws vary by state. In some states, you may sign up for access to your child’s information if they are under 13. Once they reach age 13, a child can give “proxy” access to another adult. Once a person turns 18, they need to register for their own account by talking to their healthcare provider. Other states do not allow parents to sign up for a portal for their child. Please talk with your child's provider to discuss the options for patient portal access for your child in your state. -
Will my information be kept confidential?
Like your paper-based record, your electronic health record is protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Your privacy is very important to us and your health information is always kept confidential. -
Can I share my password with a family member so that he/she doesn't need to sign up for proxy access?
This isn’t recommended. Each person should have his or her own account. That way, you will always have the choice in the future to stop sharing your information with another person.
