Conditions and services

Specialists at Ascension Seton Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Central Texas, deliver care for your orthopedic needs and sports injuries.

  • Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries

An ACL injury or tear occurs when the anterior cruciate ligament, a strong ligament in the knee, is torn or damaged. This type of injury is common in sports and is often caused by sudden stops, quick turns, or landing awkwardly when you jump. A “popping” sound may be heard at the time of injury. Our doctors and orthopedic care teams offer both surgical and non-surgical treatment options to help patients recover from ACL tears.

  • Back pain and back injury

There are many causes for back pain, from herniated discs and spinal arthritis to sciatica and chronic spine disorders and more. Our orthopedic surgeons specialize in managing back pain through a full range of therapies, including physical therapy, image-guided spinal injections, and minimally invasive procedures. If surgery is needed, we offer advanced surgical solutions, including spine surgery, to help restore your mobility and improve your quality of life. We work to identify the cause of your back pain and deliver the care that’s right for you. Then, we take the time to explain your treatment options so you can make an informed decision. From physical therapy to minimally invasive and spine surgery, we’re here for you.

  • Bone fractures

A bone fracture is a break or crack of any size in the bone. Treatment for a bone fracture usually consists of a cast or splint to reset the bone. Sometimes, surgery may be needed to repair the broken bone using a metal rod or screw to hold it together. Your orthopedic care team uses imaging to get a better picture of your fracture, and recommend a treatment option that is right for you.

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when one of the major nerves leading into the hand becomes compressed or squeezed. This compression can cause symptoms such as pain, weakness, tingling or numbness. We work with you to determine which treatment option is right for you. Treatment options range from therapy and medications, to carpal tunnel release surgery.

  • Hip and knee pain

Chronic hip or knee pain is often caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, or joint damage from injury. Our orthopedic care team specializes in diagnosing and treating these conditions with advanced, minimally invasive joint replacement surgery. We offer both total and partial hip and knee replacements, using the latest techniques and technologies to reduce pain, improve mobility, and promote a faster recovery. Our services include comprehensive evaluations, digital imaging, image-guided injections, and personalized surgical planning.

  • Meniscus tears

Meniscus tears are a common knee injury that happens when the cartilage in the knee gets torn. This often occurs from sudden stops, twists, or turns, especially when the foot is firmly planted. Athletes who play sports like soccer, basketball, or other contact sports are most at risk. Our doctors and orthopedic care teams offer surgical and non-surgical treatments for meniscus tears.

  • Osteoarthritis (OA)

Osteoarthritis usually occurs in people age 50 and older, and in people with a family history of arthritis. The cartilage that cushions the knee bones softens and wears away. The bones then rub against one another, causing knee pain and stiffness. We provide non-surgical treatments for OA like lifestyle modifications, medication, and physical and occupational therapy.

  • Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to weaken and become brittle. Using a painless bone density test, called a DXA or DEXA scan, our care team screens for bone density loss to determine your risk of developing osteoporosis. We also provide risk assessments for women during and post-menopause, and for those who have had cancer treatments that affected their bone health.

  • Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a spine disorder that causes your spine to curve sideways. In more severe cases, surgery may be recommended to help straighten the spine. Our orthopedic spine specialist specializes in advanced spine surgery for scoliosis. We take the time to explain your treatment options and answer your questions before surgery.

  • Shoulder pain and shoulder injury

Age, arthritis and injury are all possible reasons for shoulder pain. If you are living with pain, our experienced orthopedic surgery specialists and care teams take the time to understand you and your shoulder pain. Our orthopedic surgeons also specialize in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. At many Ascension orthopedic sites of care, we offer certified joint replacement surgery with rehabilitation and recovery programs.

  • Sports injuries

Our sports medicine doctors and care teams deliver prompt care when a bone or muscle injury keeps you on the sidelines. Sports medicine specialists provide comprehensive services including urgent injury care, non-surgical treatments and rehabilitation therapy. And if surgery is recommended for you, the orthopedic surgeons deliver a range of services – from minimally invasive surgery to orthopedic surgery for complex injuries.

  • Tendonitis

Tendonitis is inflammation of the tendon, a thick rope like tissue between your muscle and bone. Often repetitive movements are the main cause of tendonitis. Symptoms like stiffness, swelling and joint pain are usually triggered by repeated movement. The most common areas affected are knees, elbows, shoulders, wrist and heels. Our goal is to diagnose the cause of your pain. Then, we create a personalized care plan that treats the source of your pain. Non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment options are available.
