The Day of Your Baby's Birth

  • Arriving at the Hospital—Happy arrival and happy birthday to your new baby! Vehicles may be parked in our parking ramp (attached to the hospital) any time of day. Most entrances to Ascension Borgess Hospital are locked from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily for patient and staff safety. However, after-hours birthing patients can continue to enter hospital by elevator from levels two through six of the parking ramp during the 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. period.
  • A Smoke-Free Facility—For the comfort and safety of our patients, visitors and staff, Ascension Borgess Hospital is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is prohibited on the premises.
  • Visitation Guidelines
  • A Comfortable Delivery Area—The Ascension Borgess Hospital Birthing Center features comfortable private labor, delivery, and recovery rooms for expecting moms and families. We encourage keeping your baby in your room with you to promote bonding.
  • Your Support Person—We are happy to provide a sleeping place (sofa sleeper) for your primary support person. Meals are not provided, but we do offer a gift card for the cafeteria that your support person can use towards a meal.
  • Hospital Staff—In attendance at your child’s birth will be a labor nurse, nursery nurse and your care provider (OB/GYN and/or certified nurse-midwife). Please communicate openly with your healthcare team about your birth plan or special wishes. We are listening.
  • Length of Stay—Expecting mothers should plan on staying 24 to 48 hours following vaginal birth and 48 to 72 hours following a cesarean section (C-section). Your length of stay may depend on your individual needs and insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Cesarean Sections—One support person may be with you in the room during surgery. After delivery, you and your baby will return to the Birthing Center for recovery. One support person may stay with you during the first hour of recovery.
