Because babies sometimes arrive a little early, we have a skilled Special Care Nursery team led by a pediatric provider in the hospital 24/7. The Special Care Nursery has the ability to care for babies who are:
- Born 32 weeks gestation or older, and weigh 1500g or more
- Premature or moderately ill with problems that are expected to resolve rapidly
- Having difficulties maintaining their own temperature and require an isolette or incubator.
- Having difficulties eating and need a nasogastric (NG) feeding tube or orogastric (OG) feeding tube
- Having mild health problems related to prematurity, such as jaundice or breathing difficulties
We understand how difficult it can be going home without your baby and offer an in house boarding option for parents after discharge. This allows you to spend more time with your baby while they are receiving care in the Special Care Nursery.
You and your significant other are welcome to visit this nursery at any time. The Special Care Nursery team will review your baby’s care plan with you, and a lactation consultant will also be available for questions and assistance.
