We believe in freedom of movement for the mother during her labor whenever possible and our nursing staff will work with you to make sure you have the experience you desire. We offer multiple pain relief measures, including nitrous oxide, IV medication, epidurals and hydrotherapy. Please keep communication lines open with your nurse regarding pain medications and the best time to receive these medications. Doulas are always welcome. Pain medication is also available to mothers after their delivery.
Women having a low-risk pregnancy may choose to deliver at the low-intervention birthing room. This is an option for women who want a birth without an epidural, but still want the safety of a hospital care team, if needed. This room offers a more home-like atmosphere, but in a hospital setting. A queen size bed is used in place of a hospital bed and you will notice the room has very little hospital equipment.
After each delivery, an established "Golden Hour" provides mom, baby and significant other with quiet time to bond. Newborns are placed skin-to-skin with moms to help them transition to life outside the womb. Skin-to-skin contact is critical to the initial transition and stabilization of a newborn and to the development of a lifelong bond between mom and her baby.
A lactation (breastfeeding) consultant will visit you for support. Our nurses are knowledgeable and skilled in assisting you with breastfeeding, too.
Most moms go home within the first 48 hours of delivery. We understand there’s a lot to learn! Please be sure to write down your questions or concerns, so we can discuss them before you’re discharged to go home.
