Comprehensive breast care

Breast specialists at Ascension Saint Agnes Breast Center deliver compassionate, personalized imaging and care. We start by listening to understand you and your health concerns. And we’re dedicated to delivering care for your breast health that’s right for you.

Ascension Saint Agnes is an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Surgical Quality Partner. We are committed to providing you with the highest level of surgical care. The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers helps improve all breast cancer and disease care, including screening, prevention and early detection. The program also encourages a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan for breast cancer. By setting higher standards, the NAPBC ensures that breast centers provide comprehensive breast care based on scientific evidence and personalized care that’s right for you.

Your care team may include breast imaging specialists, fellowship trained breast surgeons, women’s health nurse navigators and breast health educators. We offer a range of services including:

  • 3D Mammograms (Tomosynthesis): When used as a screening tool, this 3D imaging technology increases the overall detection of breast cancer and reduces the recall rate for screenings – which is a very important issue. Tomosynthesis is an imaging X-ray technique used for the early detection of breast cancer and can help find cancers in dense breast tissue.
  • 2D Digital Mammograms: This low dose X-ray exam produces high-quality images. The digital image can be enhanced and magnified for optimal evaluation.
  • Breast ultrasound: These ultrasound images are referred to as sonograms. Breast ultrasound is a non-invasive test and can aid in diagnosing benign and malignant disease. We also offer breast MRI and other advanced imaging options.
  • Lymph node biopsy
  • 3D biopsy/stereotactic biopsy: This type of biopsy is used to aid in the pathological diagnosis of benign and malignant breast tissue cells. Using mammography technology, a radiologist uses two images of the breast tissue for the testing sample. A stereotactic breast biopsy can help doctors to analyze tissue samples to better understand the health of the breast.
  • Ultrasound-guided biopsy: This uses sound waves to help locate a mass and remove a tissue sample for examination under a microscope. This procedure is less invasive than surgical biopsy, leaves little to no scarring and does not involve exposure to ionizing radiation. This type of biopsy aids in the pathological diagnosis of benign and malignant breast tissue cells.
  • Genetic testing and counseling: Our care team provides genetic tests for BRCA 1, BRCA 2, and other hereditary genes that may increase your risk for breast and ovarian cancer. Telehealth genetic testing and counseling is now available. Our genetic nurse coordinator schedules your genetic tests and coordinates a consultation with a telehealth genetic consultant at the Breast Center or from the convenience of your home.
  • Other imaging, such as DEXA bone density scan and thyroid imaging

If more tests are needed, our Breast Center with breast imaging is adjacent to the Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital Cancer Institute. Your care team works together to deliver comprehensive breast care and a personalized care plan for your needs. For some breast cancers, surgery may be needed. Surgeons at Ascension Saint Agnes specialize in breast surgery for breast cancer and non-cancerous breast disease. Our breast surgeons perform breast-conserving surgery when possible. And if mastectomy is needed, our plastic surgeons can provide immediate reconstruction.

Breast health screenings

One in 8 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Mammograms continue to be the most effective screening exam for breast cancer. Regular mammograms can detect breast cancer at an earlier stage. Getting regular screenings may help find breast cancer early, when it is most treatable. That’s why it is important for women to get a mammogram every year, beginning at age 40. We’re dedicated to delivering breast health care that is right for you. Finding breast cancer early can help save lives. If your mother, sister, or daughter has been diagnosed with breast cancer, find a doctor. Ask if you should have a breast screening test before age 40.

Our team is committed to making your mammogram comfortable, private, and as easy as possible. When you come for your imaging tests, you will meet our warm and compassionate staff, ready to treat you professionally and with respect. All our radiologists meet the strict standards of accreditation by the American College of Radiation. Our physicians and staff are ready to provide the one-on-one attention you deserve, and we encourage you to share any concerns you may have before or after an imaging test. Safety is our top priority. Should anything be found after your mammogram, the team at the Ascension Saint Agnes Breast Comprehensive Center is here for you.

Call 667-234-8675 to schedule your mammogram appointment at Seton Imaging. Before you make your appointment, please make sure you have a mammogram referral from your doctor and bring it to your appointment.
