Personalized, compassionate breast screenings

Taking control of your health starts with finding a care team to support you. And by choosing Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Women’s Diagnostic Center- Watersound Origins, you are connected to the care you need, close to home. Your care team starts by listening to you. We know that each woman is unique. By understanding you and your health, we deliver the breast screening that’s right for you. We offer advanced digital imaging options, including breast ultrasounds, mammograms, biopsies and other screenings for women. Getting regular screenings may help find breast cancer early, when it is most treatable. That’s why it is important for women to get a mammogram every year, beginning at age 40.

Get the screening that is right for you

Finding breast cancer early can help save lives. If your mother, sister, aunt or grandmother has been diagnosed with breast cancer, ask your doctor if you should have a breast screening test before the age of 40. Before you make your appointment, please make sure you have a mammogram referral from your doctor and bring it to your appointment.

At Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Women’s Diagnostic Center- Watersound Origins, we provide comprehensive breast imaging, including:

3D Mammography (tomosynthesis): When used as a screening tool, this 3D imaging technology increases the overall detection of breast cancer and reduces the recall rate for screenings – which is a very important issue. 3D mammograms are an imaging X-ray technique used for the early detection of breast cancer and can help find cancers in dense breast tissue.

Breast ultrasound: Uses sound waves to create images of the breast. These ultrasound images are referred to as sonograms. Breast ultrasound is a non-invasive test and can aid in diagnosing benign and malignant disease.

Bone density tests (DEXA scan): This is performed to evaluate patients to find and treat osteoporosis and to help prevent fractures that can lead to disability.

3D biopsy or stereotactic biopsy: This type of biopsy is used to aid in the pathological diagnosis of benign and malignant breast tissue cells. Using mammography technology, a radiologist uses two images of the breast tissue for the testing sample. A stereotactic breast biopsy can help doctors to analyze tissue samples to better understand the health of the breast.

Ultrasound-guided biopsy and Magseed® are available at our sister locations, Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Women’s Diagnostic Center and Ascension Sacred Heart Bay Women’s Diagnostic Center. Please see details below on these services.

Ultrasound-guided biopsy: This uses sound waves to help locate a mass and remove a tissue sample for examination under a microscope. This procedure is less invasive than surgical biopsy, leaves little to no scarring and does not involve exposure to ionizing radiation. This type of biopsy aids in the pathological diagnosis of benign and malignant breast tissue cells.

Magseed®: This new technology guides surgeons more accurately when marking the location of small tumors. This tiny magnetic device can improve outcomes and provide comfort and convenience for patients preparing for surgery. The Magseed® marker is placed into the tumor before surgery to mark the location within the breast. The device gives off a magnetic signal that helps the surgeon accurately locate the cancer and remove it. The Magseed® marker replaces the traditional guidewire localization method of cancer marketing where a wire is inserted into the breast before surgery.

Dedicated breast navigators: Breast navigators help guide, support and provide resources and navigation during your treatment and recovery.
