Emergency care for expecting women

Ascension St. John Medical Center - OB Emergency in Tulsa, Oklahoma, provides care for pregnancy-related emergencies and to diagnose labor. We provide 24/7 care for pelvic pain, preterm labor and complications associated with high-risk pregnancy. Experienced ER care teams and OB-GYNs trained in emergency and high-risk pregnancies listen to quickly understand your needs to deliver the right care for you and your baby. 

Our OB ER team provides advanced care for pregnancy and gynecologic conditions including:

Abnormal vaginal bleeding

  • Complications associated with high-risk pregnancy
  • Decreased fetal movement
  • Ectopic pregnancy 
  • High blood pressure
  • Hyperemesis (severe nausea or vomiting)
  • Preterm labor
  • Ruptured membranes
  • Six weeks post-partum

*Sexual assault care is also provided, in collaboration with the main ER. For miscarriage, pelvic pain, post-op pain and complications please go to the main ER.

If you are experiencing an emergency, go directly to the ER or dial 911. Signs or symptoms of an acute emergency may include severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath, chest pain, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness or fainting.

Emergency OB care team

Your emergency care team will include OBs, advanced practice providers and specialized registered nurses trained in providing care for pregnancy-related emergencies. The OB hospitalists at Ascension St. John Medical Center specialize in delivering care for patients who are in the hospital. OB hospitalists also have additional training, such as advanced fetal assessment and monitoring. Along with delivering babies, OB hospitalists assist with complications and emergencies that may arise. OB hospitalists:

  • Assist patients with high-risk pregnancies
  • Deliver babies for patients who may not have an OB
  • Provide care during an emergency before your doctor arrives

Our OB ER does not replace your primary OB-GYN, midwife or primary care doctor. Instead, we support you and your care team, providing around-the-clock emergency care for when you or your baby just can’t wait.

Your care doesn’t stop when you leave the ER. We help connect you to leading specialists and follow-up care to support your care plan and recovery across Ascension St. John sites of care by our specialists before you leave the OB ER including leading heart care and women's health.

Your care team also helps you manage your medications and sends prescriptions to your local pharmacy or through Ascension Rx. And you will always have access to our other services, like imaging and lab.
