Ascension provides complete care for the prevention, treatment and diagnosis of fungal, bacterial, and viral infections of unknown origins.
About Infectious Disease
Our infectious disease doctors specialize in treating infections. We work with doctors, pathologists and clinical laboratories to detect possible bacterial, viral, fungal or parasite infections in your body. These severe – sometimes life-threatening – infections can be challenging, especially in children. For very high fever and difficulty breathing, your first line of defense is to call 911 and get to the closest emergency department. At our Children's Hospitals, our infectious disease team works closely with the pediatric intensive care doctors providing advanced treatments and breathing support.
In every Ascension Hospital, we proactively treat infections to safeguard the heart, lungs and other body functions. We are vigilant about preventing hospital-acquired illness. That is why we provide post-acute care services after the hospital discharge to monitor and manage wound healing and possible infection.
Tell your doctor if you were in contact with someone with a contagious disease, such as chickenpox or shingles, mumps, measles, tuberculosis, malaria, MRSA, or HIV/AIDS. These doctors also treat non-healing abscesses, bone and joint infections, fevers of unknown origin, urinary tract infections, and infections related to cancer, HIV, and immune deficiencies.
