Emergency OB care in Wisconsin

Ascension Wisconsin sites of care in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, provide personalized obstetric emergency care for women, when they need it most. Our board-certified OB-GYN hospitalists are dedicated to providing compassionate care for women experiencing obstetric emergencies during pregnancy

When to go to the OB emergency room

Pregnancy emergencies could happen at any hour. If you feel your health or your baby’s health could be in distress, seek emergency care immediately. Like the hospital's main emergency room, the OBED is open 24/7 to see obstetric patients, and there will always be an obstetric provider available to evaluate you.

Our experienced doctors and care teams are focused specifically on emergency care for expecting mothers — and move quickly to diagnose and treat many conditions beyond labor and delivery, including:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Complications associated with high-risk pregnancy
  • Decreased fetal movement
  • Preeclampsia, high blood pressure disorder that can occur during pregnancy
  • Preterm labor
  • Ruptured membranes

The OB ER is an extension of our primary emergency rooms — and an extension of your obstetrician and care plan. Our OB ER hospitalists at Ascension Wisconsin sites of care specialize in emergency care and provide advanced tests to monitor your health and your baby’s. Our OB hospitalists also provide care to pregnant women who are hospitalized for an illness or injury, or at our birthing center, including:

  • Emergency care before the arrival of your labor and delivery doctor
  • High-risk pregnancy care
  • Delivering babies for women who may not have an obstetrician

Our OB ER does not replace your primary obstetrician, midwife or family doctor. Instead, the OB Emergency Room is an extension of your regular doctor, providing around-the-clock care for when you and your baby need care right away.

Pregnancy and birthing care for expecting families

Pregnancy is a special time for you and your family. Your care team works together to provide specialized care before, during and after your delivery. And, if you need advanced care for a high-risk pregnancy, we’ll help connect you to the right specialists. Get all the care you need, including:

  • Breastfeeding support
  • Childbirth and sibling classes
  • Labor, delivery and postpartum care
  • Level II NICU at Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside
  • Maternal-fetal medicine and neonatal specialty care
  • OB-GYN and prenatal care
