Our volunteers are a diverse group of individuals who provide assistance to the hospital that enhance the experience for our patients and families. Each volunteer brings a new and unique level of expertise to our volunteer team. Whether you are in your retirement years and want to give back to the community, a student exploring healthcare careers or you just have a desire to help others, each volunteer provides services that elevate our level of care. Ascension St. Elizabeth volunteers are committed to supporting our patients, visitors and associates in helping to provide personalized, compassionate health care that promotes the dignity and wellbeing of the people we serve.

Volunteer requirements

Volunteers are willing to provide approximately four hours of service  per week. We ask for a commitment of at least six months, and for students to commit to two scheduling seasons (fall/spring, spring/summer, summer/fall, etc.). Our NICU Nurturer Program only accepts adults with a minimum one year commitment. We depend on help from volunteers in many areas.

Students are accepted year-round. We also ask for a weekly commitment of at least six months, or two seasons: summer/fall or winter/spring. Please note, we do not have a summer only volunteer program.

We also cannot accommodate volunteers who need to accumulate just a few hours of volunteer time toward a school or community-service requirement. A minimum of 50 service hours is required for students to request a recommendation or job reference.

Volunteers at the hospital are limited to certain areas and responsibilities. Volunteers are expected to be flexible and accept different assignments according to the needs and requirements of the patients, care teams and Volunteer Services department.
