Volunteer at Ascension Saint Thomas

Ascension Saint Thomas volunteers donate their time and energy in an effort to make a patient's stay as comfortable as possible. Our volunteers perform duties that lighten the load of our staff, services for patient comfort. Thank you for your interest in volunteering. There isn’t a gift more generous, more compassionate or more appreciated than giving your time.

Volunteer requirements

With their contagious smiles, comforting presence and huge hearts – our volunteers make each Ascension Saint Thomas feel like home. Due to the nature of our work there are a number of requirements that all Ascension volunteers must meet. You must be at least 18 years of age or older. First you will need to complete a volunteer application and undergo a drug screen along with a two-step TB test. Next you will participate in a four-hour orientation and training session. Volunteers are also required to undergo annual TB testing and complete ongoing education initiatives. Uniforms are required any time you are volunteering. These requirements ensure that volunteers are well-prepared and dedicated to supporting the mission of Ascension Saint Thomas. Please review the "Immunization" requirements and "General" requirements for the location you are applying for, before submitting your application. Junior Volunteer Program

West

The Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West Junior Volunteer Summer Program application is open January-March.  The Junior Volunteer Summer Program is a six week volunteer opportunity for students between ages 15-18 and still in high school.  The program begins in June. Applications will be accepted until March 28th or until the program is full.

Rutherford

The Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Junior Volunteer application is open from January 1 - March 31 and the program will take place in July. The Junior Volunteer Summer Program is a three week volunteer opportunity for students between ages 15-18 and still in high school. Applications will be accepted until the program is full. Once the program is full, the application form will be closed. Click here for more details.
