Patient mail and flower delivery volunteers

Everyone enjoys a gift of flowers and a card of positive thoughts - especially while being away from home in the hospital. These volunteers have the opportunity to put a smile on the face of the receiving patients or visitors.

No one dies alone

Individuals in this position will provide the reassuring presence of a compassionate companion to dying patients who would otherwise be alone at their death. With the support of the nursing staff, these companions are able to help provide patients with the most valued of human gifts: a dignified death.

Companions will receive training that includes orientation to the processes of death and dying. You do not have to be a healthcare worker to be a compassionate companion. Volunteers are not responsible for any nursing care whatsoever, but lovingly perform a sitting vigil at bedside by providing a caring presence that may offer music, prayer, plumping a pillow, holding a hand, other acts of kindness or simply being there.
