About outpatient cancer care

As your cancer care needs change, we are ready to support you. At Ascension Via Christi in Wichita, Kansas, a cancer care team is beside you from diagnosis through recovery. Your care team provides you with outpatient treatment and cancer rehabilitation. From chemotherapy and radiation therapy to nutrition education and counseling, we are with you every step of the way.

Advanced diagnostics for cancer care

Specialists at Ascension Via Christi provide advanced testing to help diagnose and treat a range of cancers. Diagnostic tests and imaging include:

  • Computerized tomography (CT)
  • Mammography (3D mammography available)
  • Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT)
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy

Chemotherapy for cancer care

If chemotherapy is part of your care plan, a dedicated oncology pharmacist works with your doctor to create a personalized regimen. Your treatment is delivered by a registered nurse that’s certified in chemotherapy administration. Chemotherapy can be used in combination with radiation therapy, surgery or alone. At Ascension Via Christi, we provide private chemotherapy suites for intravenous treatment. Each room has comfortable recliners, televisions, large windows and skylights for a more calming environment.

Radiosurgery with the CyberKnife® System

At Ascension Via Christi in Wichita, our specialists deliver noninvasive cancer treatment options. The CyberKnife System is an alternative to surgery for treating tumors anywhere in the body. CyberKnife’s computer-guided robotic arm targets tumors with radiation from dozens of angles. The radiation beams are accurate to less than 1 millimeter — or about 1/25th of an inch — to protect nearby healthy tissue. With the CyberKnife System, there may be little to no pain. There is no sedation and no incisions. You can go home immediately after treatment without any recovery time.
