Frequently asked questions about on-demand virtual care

A: Your virtual visit is documented directly in your Ascension health record. If you’re an existing patient, your primary care provider will receive a full summary of your diagnosis and care plan.

If you’re a new patient, we’ll set up an Ascension health record for you so your visit notes, prescriptions, and any follow-up care are connected and easy to access whenever you need us next.

A: You’ll meet with a licensed medical provider, such as a physician or advanced practice provider, who is experienced in delivering virtual care for common health concerns. They are licensed to practice in your state and follow the same clinical standards used across Ascension sites of care.

When medically appropriate, your virtual provider can prescribe medications and send prescriptions electronically to your pharmacy. If additional testing, imaging or in-person follow-up is needed, they’ll guide you on the next steps and help coordinate your care.

A: On-Demand virtual visits are covered by most insurance plans. If you’re enrolled in an HMO plan, this service may not be available. Your cost will vary based on your coverage but is typically comparable to what you pay for a visit to your primary care doctor at Ascension sites of care. A care navigator can help you understand what to expect before your visit.

A: If you have a life-threatening illness or injury, call 911 or visit your nearest ER. If it’s not an emergency, but you still need in-person care now, you can find an urgent care facility near you.

Not sure which care option is right for you?

A: You can view available on-demand appointment times and schedule online. Select the appointment that works best for you, then follow the prompts to complete your booking. If you need help scheduling, call 1-833-982-5881 or use the chat feature to connect with a care navigator. They’ll find a time that works for you. On-demand appointments are available Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central time.

A: You’ll need a device with a camera and microphone (such as a smartphone, computer or tablet) that connects to either Wi-Fi or cellular data service. For the best experience, we recommend connecting to Wi-Fi and taking the visit from a quiet, well-lit, private location where you can talk freely about your health needs and concerns.

After your virtual visit is scheduled, you’ll receive communications containing an electronic consent and registration form. At least 15 minutes before your appointment, we’ll email you a link with more instructions on how to join your virtual visit.

A: After your virtual visit, you will receive an email with a link to your patient portal and care summary notes. You can also print or save it to share with other doctors.

A: If you need more care, your virtual On-Demand provider can help coordinate your care with your primary care physician (PCP) or help you set up an appointment with a PCP who can then facilitate labs, imaging or additional care through an in-person exam, as needed.
