At Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center, father-son interventional cardiologists Michael and Kevin Ball share a calling, a specialty and a commitment to caring for patients.

At Ascension St. Vincent, we provide lung screenings and personalized care for lung cancer and lung nodules
Your lung health is important. Whether you need a lung screening or care for a lung nodule or lung cancer, the Ascension St. Vincent Lung Nodule Clinic is here for you. Our team of specialists provides advanced diagnostic imaging, biopsy procedures and treatment options.
We start by listening to you to better understand your health. If a lung nodule is found, our clinic helps guide you through further evaluation. Some nodules are benign and only require periodic follow-up. Others may be precancerous or cancerous. We provide biopsies to help make an accurate diagnosis and work with oncologists to create a personalized treatment plan.
Screen early. Breathe easy.
If you're age 50 or older and currently smoke or have quit smoking, a lung scan is key to knowing your risk of lung cancer.
Getting a low-dose CT scan may help find lung nodules or lung cancer early, when it is often most treatable. Finding cancer early means there may be more treatment options. At Ascension St. Vincent Lung Nodule Clinic in Indianapolis and Evansville, Indiana, we provide advanced screening and surveillance of lung nodules and cancer. A lung scan can also help diagnose lung fibrosis, COPD and other breathing disorders.
Talk to a doctor about a lung screening if you:
A referral from your primary care doctor or other provider is needed for a low-dose CT scan. If you already have a referral, please call to schedule your lung screening appointment.
A CT lung screening uses an X-ray device that rotates around your body to create cross-sectional images of the inside of your lungs. When you arrive for your test, you will change into a gown and lie on a table that slides in and out of a large tube, called a CT scanner. It is a painless imaging test that takes only a few minutes. After the scan, a radiologist reviews the images and prepares a report for your doctor. With a clearer picture of your lung health, your doctor can create a care plan that’s right for you.
Medicare and many private insurers may cover a CT scan for people at high risk. For many high-risk patients, the first scan may be covered without a copay.
At Ascension St. Vincent, our care teams are ready to answer your questions about lung screenings and any other screenings you may need. If you need additional care, including more advanced treatment options, you are connected to specialists and compassionate care teams who take the time to explain procedures and walk you through every step.
When you choose Ascension St. Vincent Lung Nodule Clinic, you have access to the latest technology used to diagnose, treat and monitor lung lesions. When further testing is needed, we use advanced diagnostic methods, including:
Robotic bronchoscopy allows your doctor to reach deeper areas of the lung to biopsy small or hard-to-reach lesions with more accuracy, efficiency and less complications.
Our Lung Nodule Clinic teams also use advanced software to monitor nodules over time. In most cases, small nodules are monitored with yearly CT scans. This ongoing surveillance helps detect changes early and allows quicker intervention to evaluate any changes in nodules.
Check with your insurance provider before scheduling to understand your coverage. Low-dose CT screening may be covered by various insurance plans as well as Medicare for those who meet certain high-risk criteria. If you have Medicare Part B and meet certain qualifications, your screening may be covered. A referral from your doctor is required.
When you are facing a new cancer diagnosis or are deciding on a surgical or therapeutic treatment plan, there’s a lot to think about. Our pulmonologists or thoracic surgeons
in Indiana provide a second opinion, based on our experience and as part of a national team.
Before your appointment, check with your insurance company to find out if a second opinion is covered. We can request your medical records on your behalf, so they can be shared with your care team before your arrival.
If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, go directly to the ER or call 911.
