When you choose Ascension Sacred Heart, you get doctors and care teams who listen to your symptoms, concerns and history with seizures. We start each appointment with a thorough evaluation. Your doctor may recommend diagnostic testing, such as blood tests or imaging, to better understand the cause of your seizures. Using this information, your doctor works with you to create a care plan tailored to your needs.
Our goal is to help reduce the number of seizures you have — and in some cases, prevent them.
Depending on the type and cause of your seizures, your care plan may include medication, surgery or a combination of both.
Whenever possible, neurologists start with nonsurgical treatment options. Many people are able to manage seizures with anti-seizure or anti-epileptic medications. Your doctor works with you to find the right medication and dosage, adjust your medications as needed and help manage side effects.
If medications aren’t effectively managing your seizures, your doctor may recommend surgery.
