Vein specialists at Ascension St. Vincent have the expertise to care for vein conditions that are causing you discomfort and affect the appearance of your legs. High-definition imaging and blood flow studies are used to diagnose vein conditions. Vein specialists use advanced laser therapy and minimally invasive treatments to help improve the appearance of your legs and promote better blood flow. Your vein specialist starts by listening to understand your concerns. Then, we work with you to create a personalized vein care plan. Vein specialists diagnose and treat cosmetic and medical vein conditions, such as:
- Blood clot
- Chronic venous insufficiency (venous reflux)
- Deep vein thrombosis (blood clot)
- Phlebitis (vein inflammation)
- Rosacea and other facial skin discoloration
- Skin ulcer on the leg or ankle

Vein conditions can be uncomfortable. If you have building veins, spider veins, skin discoloration, pain, swelling or restless legs, talk with a vein specialist.
Schedule a free vein consultation
Come see one of our board certified vascular surgeons to see if you are a candidate for varicose vein or spider vein treatment. They will look at your legs and listen to your symptoms. After the initial free consultation, if you decide if you want to proceed with the provider's suggestions, they can often work you in the same day for needed imaging with a follow up clinic visit or spider vein injections. Frequently asked questions about vein conditions
What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins. When veins are working properly, they return blood to the heart for reoxygenation. In varicose veins, the valve fails, leaks or is damaged, causing some of your blood to flow away from the heart and pool in one or both legs. Signs of varicose veins may include bulging veins, itchy skin, swelling, heavy-feeling legs, and leg pain that can be burning and throbbing.
When should I be concerned about my varicose veins?
Talk to your doctor about your health concerns and how your leg symptoms may be affecting your work life and ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Severely distended varicose veins may lead to long-term mild swelling, blood clots, skin discoloration, and more serious skin and tissue problems, such as ulcers and hard-to-heal wounds.
What are spider veins?
Spider veins are the ones you see closer to the skin’s surface that may appear small, threadlike and wispy. They may appear red or purple in color; however, reticular veins or “feeder” veins may appear bluish-green and can have a marbled appearance. Spider veins and reticular veins are generally considered a cosmetic condition and usually not covered by insurance.
