Prevent gynecologic cancers with cancer screening
Depending on your age and risk factors, we may test for different gynecologic cancers. Your exam may include:

- Pelvic exam (Cervical and ovarian cancer)
Our doctors focus on preventive care and surveillance of precancer lesions. Talk to our care team if you are experiencing abdominal and pelvic pain and have changes in your period. Having a family member with breast cancer or ovarian cancer is a risk factor for developing a gynecologic cancer. Ascension Saint Thomas also provides genetic testing for the BRCA1, BRCA2 or PALB2 genes and offers genetic counseling for you and your family.

Targeted therapy is also available for some types of ovarian cancer. PARP inhibitor drugs target specific proteins on or inside the cancer cells. The drugs help stop cell growth and the spread of cancer.
