Breast surgeons at Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast specialize in advanced breast reconstruction surgery to help restore your comfort and appearance.

At Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast in Miramar Beach, our breast surgeons provide advanced breast reconstruction care. Whether you're preparing for a mastectomy or lumpectomy, considering breast or nipple reconstruction, or recovering from a previous procedure – choosing breast reconstruction is a deeply personal decision. Our care teams are here for you. We start by listening to understand you and your preferences. Then, we collaborate closely with your cancer care team to create a care plan that’s personalized to your health needs, recovery goals, and personal preferences.

We specialize in many types of breast reconstruction, including:

  • Breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy)
This type of surgery is used to remove a tumor, while saving as much of the healthy tissue as possible.
  • Delayed or staged reconstruction
Reconstruction may be done at the same time as your mastectomy or lumpectomy (immediate reconstruction) or in stages after your initial surgery and healing (delayed reconstruction), depending on your treatment plan and preferences.
  • Implant-based reconstruction
Saline or silicone implants may be used to recreate the breast shape. Implants may be placed immediately after mastectomy or lumpectomy, or in a staged approach. Some patients may need a tissue expander to gradually prepare the area before permanent implants are placed.
  • Mastectomy with or without reconstruction
A mastectomy is a surgery that removes one of both of the breasts. Some women may choose to have breast reconstruction done at the same time as the mastectomy. Other women may choose to delay the reconstruction, or not to have reconstruction.
  • Natural tissue (flap) reconstruction

Known as autologous reconstruction, this type of surgery uses your own tissue to create a more natural-looking result.

    Flap options include:

    • APEX flap (abdominal perforator exchange)
    • DIEP flap (deep inferior epigastric perforator)
    • Gluteal flaps
    • Natural Tissue
    • PAP flap (profunda artery perforator flap)
    • SIEA flap (superficial inferior epigastric artery)
  • Nipple and areola reconstruction
This type of reconstruction is performed after breast mound reconstruction to restore a more natural appearance. This can be done surgically or through medical tattooing.
If you're preparing for breast cancer surgery, your care team will guide you through your options and help you make informed decisions that align with your goals and stage of recovery. We meet with you before and after your procedure, so you are supported every step of the way.
