Paramedic & Emergency Medical Services Training
Ascension Saint Joseph - Elgin has been an EMS resource hospital since 1995, representing the greater Elgin and Fox River Valley area with three private providers and two fire protection districts. Our program has been dedicated to providing high-quality pre-hospital education, including the following:
- EMT-P Training
- Continuing Education for EMTs and Paramedics
The Ascension Saint Joseph - Elgin paramedic training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), in affiliation with Elgin Community College since 2015.
Our EMS system is one of six EMS systems that are incorporated in Region IX. Together, we cover a large geographic area that includes McHenry, Kane and Cook Counties.
As a region, in coordination with the Illinois Department of Public Health, we work together to serve multiple roles, including authorship of the Region IX Standard Operating Procedures, Trauma Policy and Procedures, Standards and Practices and Disaster Management.

Paramedic training program
High-quality pre-hospital care can be established only through a dedication to excellence in education. To achieve this, Ascension Saint Joseph - Elgin has joined with Elgin Community College to form a paramedic program that far surpasses the minimum standards of paramedic education and offers our students the opportunity to earn college credit hours.
As a valuable member of the community, Ascension Saint Joseph - Elgin participates in many programs, including emergency communications radio nurse and trauma nurse core courses.
