Ascension St. John Sapulpa is committed to your recovery. Our skilled care unit provides compassionate nursing and rehabilitation care after you are discharged from the hospital but need more care before returning home. 

What is skilled care?

Skilled care is provided when you need specialized nursing or rehabilitation care teams to evaluate, treat and manage your care. Skilled services include intravenous (IV) medications, wound care and physical therapy. Patients most often stay in the program until they can safely continue their rehabilitation at home or at another location.

The Ascension St. John Sapulpa care team works with you to prepare a care plan for your unique needs. Our goal is to help you reach your best level of strength and function so you may return to your home or residential facility. Full-time doctors at Ascension St. John Sapulpa, who specialize in managing the clinical needs of our patients, are available seven days a week. Our doctors will closely monitor your care during your stay to ensure you receive the safest quality care.

What does skilled rehabilitation do?

Ascension St. John Sapulpa’s nurses, specializing in skilled care, work with rehabilitation specialists to help improve your condition within a predetermined time period, or set up a maintenance program to maintain your current condition and prevent relapse. Following a qualified acute care stay, you may be referred by doctors, acute care hospital clinicians or other healthcare professionals for admission to skilled bed status. Ascension St. John Sapulpa offers 24-hour skilled nursing services and a doctor seven days a week.

  • Orthopedic patients with recent joint repair or replacements
  • Those recovering from major surgery or requiring extensive wound care
  • Individuals who need physical, occupational or speech (cognitive) therapy
  • Individuals who require management of congestive heart failure, pulmonary (lung) disease and other chronic conditions
  • Individuals who need IV antibiotic therapy

Is skilled care covered by insurance?

Medicare covers certain skilled care services needed daily on a short-term basis (up to 100 days). The length of your stay in our skilled care program is dependent upon your needs and progress. We accept Medicare and certain managed Medicare plans. Some private insurance plans also cover skilled care services.
