Understand heart surgery
When you have a heart condition, surgery may be recommended as part of your care plan. Cardiovascular surgeons and interventional cardiologists at Ascension Illinois deliver surgical treatments to help open clogged arteries, restore blood flow to the heart, repair leaky heart valves and more. Whenever possible, your doctor uses minimally invasive, catheter-based surgery. But sometimes open-heart surgery is recommended.
Surgical treatments for heart conditions
We specialize in heart procedures to:
- Bypass damaged arteries and graft new ones into the heart (CABG)
- Treat blocked coronary arteries with surgical and minimally invasive procedure, including PCI, balloon angioplasty and stent replacement when appropriate

How to get care
To make an appointment, a referral should be made by your primary care doctor or another specialist. Once the referral is received and reviewed, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist.
