About Matthew W Segar, MD
Matthew W. Segar, MD, is a cardiac electrophysiologist at Ascension St. Vincent in New Castle and Carmel near Indianapolis, Indiana. He evaluates and manages patients with irregular heart rhythms, combining medication management with procedural treatments aimed at restoring normal rhythm and lowering stroke risk. Every plan begins with a conversation about your symptoms and health history. From there, targeted testing helps pinpoint what's driving the arrhythmia, so your treatment fits your specific diagnosis.
If you're experiencing new heart rhythm symptoms or have already been diagnosed and want a specialist's opinion, Dr. Segar welcomes the conversation. His procedural focus includes catheter ablation, using radiofrequency and pulsed field energy, for atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias, electrical cardioversion, implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), and WATCHMAN™ left atrial appendage closure for patients seeking an alternative to long-term blood thinners.
Dr. Segar has a clinical interest in atrial fibrillation management, the relationship between atrial fibrillation and heart failure, advances in ablation technology, and applying artificial intelligence to improve cardiac diagnosis.
Dr. Segar is an active Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and has published more than 90 peer-reviewed studies in cardiovascular medicine. He has been nationally recognized by the American Heart Association and National Institutes of Health for his research applying big data to cardiovascular disease. His current research examines the comparative safety of newer ablation technologies for atrial fibrillation and the use of AI models to detect heart disease earlier from routine ECGs.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Segar enjoys rowing, traveling, and spending time with his wife.
