About John K Politz, MD
John K. Politz, MD, is a board-certified vascular surgeon at Ascension Seton and Dell Children's in Austin, Texas, with nearly three decades of experience providing comprehensive vascular and endovascular care to patients throughout Central Texas. Since joining Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons in 1996, Dr. Politz has built a reputation for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care with a focus on achieving the best possible outcomes through individualized treatment plans.
Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Politz earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas before pursuing advanced fellowship training in Vascular Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center.
As a vascular surgeon, Dr. Politz specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of vascular conditions using both open and endovascular techniques. His expertise includes the treatment of peripheral arterial disease, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, complex conditions involving the major arteries and veins of the abdomen, and dialysis access. Throughout much of his career, the majority of his practice involved major open abdominal operations on the aorta, the vena cava, and their branches. This area of expertise is relatively uncommon within the vascular surgery community and enabled him to work closely with spine surgeons by providing surgical exposure for discectomy and spinal fusion procedures performed through the chest and abdomen. His practice has since transitioned exclusively to providing spine access services for spine surgeons and their patients throughout Central Texas and beyond.
Throughout his career, Dr. Politz has remained committed to advancing the field of surgery and serving the broader healthcare community. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Central Texas Blood and Tissue Center and maintains active involvement in numerous professional organizations, including the Texas Medical Association, Travis County Medical Society, Parkland Surgical Society, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He has also been actively involved in the training of surgical residents in Austin and was honored with the Outstanding Teaching Award in recognition of his commitment to surgical education.
Dr. Politz is certified by the American Board of Surgery in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery and holds a Certificate of Special Qualifications in General Vascular Surgery. His longstanding commitment to excellence, technical expertise, and compassionate care has made him a trusted resource for patients and referring physicians across Central Texas.
