About Vincent L Flanders, MD

Vincent L. Flanders, MD, is an experienced interventional radiologist at Ascension St. Vincent in Carmel and Indianapolis, Indiana. He has been serving patients in Indiana for over 15 years, after earning his medical degree from Duke University and completing advanced training in Boston at Harvard's flagship teaching hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital.

During his time in Boston, Dr. Flanders completed dual fellowships in Abdominal Imaging and Vascular & Interventional Radiology, equipping him with comprehensive expertise in minimally invasive, image-guided procedures. He specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of both benign and malignant conditions.

Dr. Flanders has a particular focus on interventional oncology, offering advanced treatments for liver, bone, lung, and kidney cancers. His expertise includes microwave and radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation, bland embolization, chemoembolization, and radioembolization.

In addition, he has specialized training in hepatic and portal interventions, including transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), BRTO/CARTO procedures, and offering portal venous reconstructions and thrombectomy.

Given his background in abdominal imaging and strong advocacy for women's health, Dr. Flanders began participating in weekly Gynecologic Oncology conferences more than 15 years ago. In this role, he provides expert imaging review and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to support comprehensive patient care. He is also actively involved in teaching gynecology residents about minimally invasive interventional radiology procedures. His educational efforts focus on expanding awareness of image-guided treatments for a range of conditions, including uterine fibroids, pelvic congestion syndrome, and other gynecologic disorders.

Dr. Flanders also has a strong interest in vascular disease management, including treatment of peripheral arterial disease using angioplasty, stenting, and thrombolysis. He performs minimally invasive procedures for both acute and chronic deep vein thrombosis and is experienced in IVC filter placement and retrieval.

Known for his patient-centered approach, Dr. Flanders takes the time to personally review imaging studies with each patient, helping them understand their condition in the context of their unique medical story. He is committed to delivering individualized, compassionate care tailored to each patient's specific health needs.

Dr. Flanders has recently completed research studies in liver and renal tumor ablations, gynecologic malignancy ablations, pulmonary embolism therapies and use of IVUS in peripheral arterial disease.

Dr. Flanders served as Chief Resident in the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital early in his career. He went on to become Chairman of Radiology at St. Vincent Carmel in Carmel, Indiana, from 2014 to 2016. He later held multiple leadership roles in Indianapolis, serving on the Board of Directors for Northwest Radiology from 2018 to 2021 & 2023-2026, while concurrently acting as Chief of Radiology at St. Vincent Indianapolis during the same period. In 2023, he co-founded Vascular & Interventional Physicians, where he has recently shifted focus and joined Ascension Medical Group to act as the Medical Director of Imaging Services.

Dr. Flanders has received many academic achievement awards throughout his career, but is most proud of his repeated Teaching Awards from his commitments to the various residency programs at Ascension St. Vincent.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Flanders enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons rock climbing, mountain biking, fly fishing and snowboarding.
