About Brian K Lee, MD

Brian K. Lee, MD, is an independent, board-certified transplant nephrologist and serves as Medical Director of the Kidney Transplant Program within the Abdominal Transplant Center, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in caring for adult and young adult patients with end-stage kidney disease who are being evaluated for or undergoing kidney transplantation.

In addition to his clinical leadership role, Dr. Lee is a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Lee earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Dublin, Ireland. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in nephrology and hypertension, at MetroHealth Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University. He also completed fellowships in transplant nephrology at the University of California, San Francisco and integrative medicine at The University of Arizona.

Prior to joining UT Health Austin, Dr. Lee served as Medical Director of the Living Kidney Donor Program at the University of California, San Francisco, where he led evaluations for kidney transplant candidates and living donors and helped guide donor-recipient matching and transplant readiness.

Dr. Lee is committed to providing comprehensive transplant care before and after surgery, including pre-transplant evaluation, postoperative follow-up, immunosuppression management, and care for patients who may require repeat transplantation. His research focuses on living kidney donation, transplant outcomes, improving long-term kidney function after transplantation, and desensitization strategies to reduce the risk of organ rejection.

Dr. Lee is an active member of the American Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Transplantation, and the National Kidney Registry.

Dr. Lee is a transplant nephrologist with UT Health Austin.
