About Scott M Adams, MD

Dr. Scott Adams is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Adams attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he earned both his undergraduate degree with honors and his medical degree. He returned to Virginia for his orthopaedic surgery internship and residency at the Medical College of Virginia, including serving as chief resident. While a resident, Dr. Adams completed and published award-winning research in peer-reviewed medical journals. Following his residency, Dr. Adams completed a sports medicine fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. During his fellowship, he was one of a limited number of nationwide participants in the American Orthopaedic Association’s Emerging Leaders Program. Dr. Adams has extensive experience in the sports medicine field. He has served as a team physician for Duke University’s basketball, football, and men's and women’s soccer teams. He has also worked with local high schools providing medical coverage for various sports. He serves as a medical consultant for Howard County High School wrestling and CBS Radio. Additionally, Dr. Adams serves as a physician with the United States Soccer Federation and travels internationally with various USA teams, including the Women's World Cup team. He has provided medical coverage at youth World Cups around the world, as well as at World Cup qualifying tournaments. As a former athlete, Dr. Adams can honestly say I know how it feels and admits to having had many of the injuries he currently diagnoses and treats. Dr. Adams has written a book chapter on knee injuries, published articles on ACL injuries and treatment, and has given talks on various sports injuries, including a presentation to a worldwide FIFA medical forum. Dr. Adams is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, FIFA Medical Society, and the Maryland Orthopaedic Association. He has been recognized in Baltimore magazine as a Top Doctor in sports medicine and general orthopaedics.
