About Matthew J Geck, MD

Matthew J. Geck, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon at Ascension Texas in Austin, TX. Dr. Geck specializes in scoliosis, spinal deformities, and complex spine conditions in children, adolescents, and adults. He has practiced in Austin, Texas since 2002 and focuses exclusively on the diagnosis and treatment of spinal deformities and other complex spine disorders.

Dr. Geck cares for patients with adult and pediatric scoliosis, kyphosis, flatback syndrome, spinal cord compression, high-grade spondylolisthesis, failed prior spine surgeries, and other complex spinal conditions. He has performed more than 3,500 scoliosis surgeries and treats patients referred from across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

His clinical interests include minimally invasive scoliosis surgery, vertebral body tethering (VBT), growth modulation procedures, complex spinal reconstruction, osteotomy surgery, halo gravity traction, and revision surgery for spinal deformities. Dr. Geck works closely with patients and families to develop individualized treatment plans that support each patient's needs and goals.

Dr. Geck earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at UCLA Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed fellowship training in adult and pediatric spine surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital and additional subspecialty training in scoliosis and kyphosis surgery at Miami Children's Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Geck is the Co-Founder of SpineHope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children with spinal deformities through surgery, education, and research. Through SpineHope, he has participated in global outreach efforts that provide specialized spine care and surgical training in underserved communities.

Dr. Geck serves as Co-Chief of Texas Spine and Scoliosis and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Dell Medical School. He has authored and presented scientific work on spine surgery and spinal deformities and is a Fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has also been recognized by his peers as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor and Texas Super Doctor.
