Kids for Camp Introduction

This presentation is exclusively for individuals who are applying as staff for Autism Pensacola's Kids for Camp.

Behavior is a form of communication as well as serving a purpose for the individual. Functional communication is the ability to communicate one’s wants and needs in a meaningful and effective way. Increasing someone's functional communication may help reduce frustrations and unsafe behaviors as well as provide opportunities to build social relationships. During this presentation, we will discuss how to begin to assess the purpose of someone's behavior as well as strategies for choosing and teaching an appropriate alternative method to communicate.

This presentation serves as an introduction to this topic - more training will be provided to staff on this and many more topics.
