Rory Mayer, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and dual fellowship-trained spine surgeon at Ascension Texas Spine and Scoliosis in Austin and Round Rock, Texas. Dr. Mayer specializes in the treatment of scoliosis in adolescents and adults, kyphosis, flat back syndrome and other complex spinal deformities, as well as spinal tumors. His expertise also includes revision spine surgery for complications related to previous spinal procedures.

Dr. Mayer earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 2012, where he also completed his neurosurgical residency and pursued an enfolded fellowship in neurocritical care and spine trauma. He later served as chief resident in the department of neurosurgery before completing a fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) in 2020.

His additional subspecialty training includes neurosurgical oncology and spine tumor surgery at the internationally recognized MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as pediatric spinal deformity training at Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Mayer has also served as a clinical instructor in the department of neurosurgery at UCSF and as a consulting neurotrauma surgeon for the National Football League (NFL).
