About Eeric Truumees, MD
Eeric Truumees, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon at Ascension Texas Spine and Scoliosis in Austin, Texas. He specializes in the treatment of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine disorders, with particular expertise in spinal trauma, complex and revision spine surgery, and cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacement.
Dr. Truumees earned his undergraduate degree and medical degree from the University of Virginia, where he was selected as a Bowman Scholar. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic and went on to complete fellowship training in spinal surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, under the mentorship of Dr. Harry Herkowitz.
Before joining Ascension Texas Spine and Scoliosis in 2010, Dr. Truumees served as an attending spine surgeon at William Beaumont Hospital, where he was Clinical Director of the Harold W. Gehring Center for Biomechanical Research and Implant Retrieval. He also served as Adjunct Faculty at Wayne State University and later as Professor of Surgery and Spine Subspecialty Director for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at The University of Texas Dell Medical School.
Dr. Truumees is internationally recognized for his leadership in spine surgery and spine research. He served as President of the North American Spine Society (NASS) in 2020 and has held leadership positions with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, including service on its Communications Cabinet and as Editor-in-Chief of AAOS Now. He has also served as Deputy Editor of The Spine Journal and on the editorial boards of several spine publications.
Active in spine research and clinical trials, Dr. Truumees has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters, participated in more than 15 NIH- and industry-sponsored multicenter clinical studies, and delivered more than 200 national and international presentations on spine surgery and spinal disorders.
